Lodging in Spain: The student must usually find lodging by himself. Most of the college students in Spain live in colegios mayores (student residences) during the scholastic year. Some universities do not have student residences, but they offer advice to find lodging through its international relations offices. The private universities have a person of the own educational center whose work is to help the students to look for a lodging. Other options for students are shared apartments, residences, pensions and private apartments.

Student residences: Some universities have student residences (well-known like colegios mayores), of limited vacancies, reason why it is better to book with enough anticipation. Its price is almost the same one that the one of the pensions, and usually the food is included. Finding an apartment: The student ´s best option is to look for lodging by himself, consulting the advertisements in the local newspapers or with real estate agencies, or to share an apartment.
Most of the communities have a so called YOUNG HOUSE SERVICE, where it is possible to obtain information about houses, a list of apartments for young people to rent, at lower prices, by an agreement with the owners. It is also provided special legal information for those who need it. This service can be used by people between the 18 and 35 years old.
On the other hand, students younger than 30 years old that have to move from their own cities to study, can obtain a place in some of the residences constructed by agreements subscribed with the Independent Communities, City councils and Universities.


Youth Hostels: While looking for apartment or residence, an option is to stay in a student hostel. Now, Spain have more than 200 hostels, with 17,304 beds. For more information, the page of the Spanish Network of Youth Hostels can be visited.
